Daniel 12:1. "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book." The time we're talking about here is in reality the middle of the week, and it becomes a very important point in biblical prophesy of the end time. Then it seems here that Michael is somewhat the guardian angel as it were of Israel sent forth to stand up and fight for them, and notice once again how that God puts it. He knows that this is what Daniel is interested in and doesn't say the children of Israel, the children of Jacob, or anything like that. He says Daniel, thy people because his people the Jews was so close to his heart, and God is very thorough in telling him yes, I am going to preserve this people, and so Michael is going to stand up "For the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation." And this is why we know this verse when talking about "At that time" as being at the middle of that tribulation week when it becomes the last half of that time where that there will be troubles such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time. "And at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book." Once again Daniel's people Israel shall be delivered even in the midst of that horrendous time of devastation that is going to begin at the middle of the week. Now once again some people try to say "You see there," all the nation of Israel regardless of how they acted or anything like that will be saved. No, it is those that are written in the book. The book of life is what we are talking about here.

Daniel 12:2. "And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." Now the thing about these two resurrections is that they are separated by the little word "And," and that signifies a period of one thousand years because the resurrection of the righteous dead happens one thousand years ahead of the resurrection of the unrighteous dead and we'll see this in Revelation Chapter 21. The unrighteous wicked dead will not be raised up until after the millennium no matter when they died at which time they will appear before the great white throne judgment. Now I believe everyone here understands that the great white throne judgment, and the judgment seat of Christ are not the same, but there are many Christians that talk about standing before the great white throne judgment and that is not going to happen because the great white throne judgment is for unbelievers. In John 5:28-29 Jesus said, "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation."

Daniel 12:3. "And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever." These "And they that be wise" are the Jews who have repented and are wise now because they accepted Christ. This is that wise remnant and they are going to instruct the rest, and we have found down through the ages that God works with remnants constantly and whether people realize it, God is really working in the Church through a remnant. Why? Because the majority of the Church is just about as cold or lukewarm as you can get, and though they may be entertained they're not being instructed. God has always had a remnant that is wise and able to instruct, so it will be with this remnant of Israel in the end time. Then we read that the "Wise shall shine" and of course they will shine because they are in the midst of such darkness. It's just like when it gets so dark you can see one little match or candle for a long way, and that's what it will be with Israel. That wisdom that they have is going to be shining even in those dark exhausting days of the tribulation period, and so they are going to be those that will turn others unto the righteousness of Christ Himself.

Daniel 12:4. "But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." Now He is telling Daniel that he might as well seal this up because this is not going to happen for awhile, and so if you return to Daniel's day Christ will not even come for another four hundred years, and then you have this Church Age of two thousand plus years. So Daniel, this is not going to be fulfilled for a good while yet and so seal up the book even to the time of the end. Have you heard those that proclaim that the books of Daniel and Revelation are sealed books and point to "Shut up the words, and seal the book" and say, you see right there? Well no they're not to be sealed at this time because He says seal the book when? Till the time of the end and we are at the time of the end and have been in these last days for a good while, and so many have been able to understand these wonderful things that we read here in Daniel and Revelation down through this Church Age. Then we read "Many shall run to and fro" and this means many of these wise ones of Daniel 12:3 are going to run to and fro hungering after righteousness. It's not wandering or running to and fro as if they have no direction, they are actually hungering and thirsting after this knowledge that has been imparted to Daniel indeed, and other parts of the scripture and the results of that is that knowledge increases.

Daniel 12:5-6. "Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river." Now these "Other two" are two more people not identified here, but perhaps they are Jews also because they are asking questions in the next verse concerning what is going to happen. Now Daniel is in the same place we saw him last week so this river mentioned here has to be that same Tigris-Euphrates river system. 6 "And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?" That man clothed in linen is exactly the same one we've seen numerous times in these last three chapters and that man is Christ "Which was upon the waters of the river." Then the question is this; "How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?" And the wonders He's talking about is the reign of the antichrist with all spectacular things that he will be able to bring forth and so many of those are wonders of destruction. I'm sure they're talking especially about how long are the people of Israel going to suffer because of this man?

Daniel 12:7. "And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished." Again we see Christ here dressed in white linen and He "Held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half" and you'll find Jesus lifting His hand to heaven in Revelation 10:5, but here He "Sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half," and this means that mark given to the antichrist especially where he is given free rein after Israel signs that covenant during the first three and one-half years of the tribulation, but then the antichrist does not really assert himself and is not given absolute sway, authority, and control over the entire world, and indeed over the Jew until the middle of the week. Then he is given the next three and one-half years in order to "To scatter the power of the holy people" and then "All these things shall be finished." In other words this will be the end of the antichrist. He has done what he was intended to do as we found out at the first of this lesson, and that was that he is going to be allowed to continue to prosper until the indignation is accomplished. The punishment to this nation of Israel has finally been realized and therefore the antichrist shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people and that's what he did; he absolutely annihilated this nation of unbelief against God. As we have already seen, that does not mean Israel in total so to speak because there has always this remnant and God is going to begin anew with that remnant and build the nation of Israel from that remnant. But God has done exactly what He has said He would do and that is to punish unbelieving Israel because of their rejection of Christ. Then He says "All these things shall be finished."

Daniel 12:8-9. "And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? To Daniel here it was just a little general or vague and he said I just don't understand here exactly what this means. Well in Verse 9, "And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end." And again this God's way of telling Daniel and us that these things were not going to be fulfilled right then, but it was going to be at a much later date. Well we know that we are down to that later date and that is not very far in the future until these things begin to come to pass. We are presently experiencing the beginning of sorrows described in Matthew 24:8, but what I am talking about beginning to come to pass is where it can really be calculated on a daily basis as we're just about to get into here.

Daniel 12:10. "Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand." That "Many" is referring especially to this remnant that God is going to have, and we have read that in the end time men are really going to put their lives on the line when they either accept the mark of the beast or they will die. Well we see here that "Many shall be purified, and made white," and that means they are made white by the blood of the Lamb which is the only it can be accomplished and a Christian will absolutely not accept the mark of the beast. Then we see here that "Many shall be purified, and made white," and that means they are made white by the blood of the Lamb which is the only it can be accomplished and a Christian will not accept the mark of the beast. Next they shall be "Tried" and believe me, the time of Jacob's trouble is going to be a major time of trial for people to undergo at that time. As I have said before, all of the Church including the 144,000 will have been there long before that having arrived in heaven before the middle of the week. What we read here is only speaking of those left on the earth after the Church is gone that will shall be purified and made white by accepting Christ, and they are not a part of the Church.

Prophesies of Daniel - Chapter Twelve

by Gene Hawkins

Part 2 of 2

~ transcribed and edited from lecture by larry ~

"The wicked shall do wickedly." and that is exactly right even in the midst of all of that horrendous difficulty that is going to happen. Now I want to notice that in the closing verses of Chapter 11 we saw how that the antichrist went forth with all of those armaments that he had, and then add to that the fact that God Himself is going to be pouring out His wrath and indignation where the sun is going to be hotter and hotter, and giant hailstones falling from the sky that the antichrist or no one else has any control over. Then all of that is going to be coupled with the devastation that is authored by the antichrist coming on the earth and therefore we find that men are going to be in such a time of devastation as we had that has never been heard of before. Well even in the midst of all of that when all of these supernatural things are beyond the control of men we still read these words. "But the wicked shall do wickedly." Amazing, you know some people never learn and that's all there is to it. "And none of the wicked shall understand" but once again "The wise shall understand." There are still these two paths; he that calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved, and the wicked shall do wickedly.

Daniel 12:11. "And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days." From the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away is a reference from Daniel 8:11. "Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down." And we must understand the difference in these two scriptures because there are twelve hundred and ninety days that separate them. Now this is very interesting and if people have gone to the word of God to understand the things that Daniel understood, and indeed that we understand they can calculate exactly when certain things are going to happen right down to the day. I told you in the beginning of this class that God deals with the Gentiles in symbolic terms, but when He deals with the Jew He deals in exact days so notice what we have here in this verse. Now what we must understand is that the taking away of the daily sacrifice is not the same in Daniel 9:27, "And he (The antichrist) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease." That means that in the middle of the week all sacrifice of the Jews is going to be taken away. The daily sacrifice was just one very important part of their sacrifice and oblation that they clung to for years and still will as we read at this time, but the daily sacrifice is not the same as taking away all sacrifice and offering that happens in the middle of the week. In the middle of the week the antichrist sets up his image there in the temple and he says there will be no other worship outside of me, and therefore all sacrifice that the Jews had offered is going to be taken away, and it's important that we understand that because from the time the daily sacrifice is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up there shall be one thousand, two hundred and ninety days until the antichrist sets up his image in the middle of the week. Now when he does that, these remaining days belong to him and we'll see that in a little bit.

So the tribulation begins thirty days after the daily sacrifice is taken away, and then it continues for twelve hundred and sixty days from the beginning of the week until the middle of the week. I as well as most Bible scholars am persuaded that the taking away of the daily sacrifice is a condition to signing that covenant. The antichrist says alright, I will make a covenant with you for this protection and that's exactly what it's supposed to be that we read there in Psalms 2:1, "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?" The people are Israel, and the main thing they're imagining is this peace with the antichrist. Remember he is going to come in as a man of peace having all the answers, and then we see him in all his fury during the last three and one-half years of the tribulation but it doesn't start out that way. In 1 Thessalonians 5:3 Paul says, "For when they shall say, Peace and safety," and Israel signs this covenant. They have made these ungodly stupid agreements even in our own day in their recent dispute with Lebanon when they had them on the ropes they sign an agreement and don't even get their captured men back. Why do they do it? They've always wanted peace. The Camp David Accords were for peace, but they didn't get it then, and they won't get it now.

Now why is the taking away of the evening sacrifice so significant unto God? It is a testimony of Christ coming into this world, going to the cross, and dying not only for the Jew, but also for sinful humanity. When Elijah was going to prove that God was God, he waited until the time of the evening sacrifice. See, it's a testimony of Christ and when Israel gives away the evening sacrifice that is the signal, and it seems that covenant will actually be ratified thirty days later and the tribulation begins. And so notice as we see here; "From the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away" until the midst of the week is twelve hundred and ninety days. Then when we get to Revelation concerning the middle of the week you can count backward or forward and just count the days as to when certain things are going to happen, and when it's all going to end, but as we're also going to see, those days don't quite match up and we'll find out exactly what they are, but it is in fulfillment of the scripture because Jesus said it this way; "Except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved." Now God knows exactly right down to the day as to when the rule of the antichrist is over, and when Jesus is going to be able to manifest before the entire world that He is the sole ruler of heaven and earth.

Daniel 12:12. "Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days." Now then what are those days? Well those are the days that everything is done and Christ is absolutely reigning as soul ruler with dominion over the world. This time in this verse amounts to seventy-five days beyond the three and one-half reign of the antichrist, and by that time Christ is fully in place and Israel is fully in the driver's seat in so far as being the head of the nations, so "Blessed is he that waiteth" and you can compare that with Matthew 24:13 and it says it this way. "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved," and there are those that like to say see there, you have to hold out faithful to the end. No, that's not what He's talking about; he that endures to the end of that time is the same time we're talking about right here. "He that shall endure unto the end" is the same as "Blessed is he that waiteth" and is that remnant of the Jews that is going to go all the way through the tribulation period or the time of Jacob's trouble. They will come out on the other side and indeed they will be blessed because they are the ones who will be the nucleus of the nation of Israel from which God is going to build this kingdom of priests that are going to minister to the rest of the nations.

Daniel 12:13. "But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days." And so it seems to me from this that God has still given Daniel a prominent place in Israel's history that is yet to come. God is going to raise him up and of course that's not just sheer speculation at all because Jesus promised the twelve disciples that they would be sitting on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel and that is going to happen after Jesus takes His throne and puts down all rule and authority. Then Israel as a nation becomes the head of the nations ruling in righteousness and it seems that Daniel is going to have a part in that. I don't know what it will be but I'm sure that time will be a great time as Daniel rejoices because he knew what would happen long before it happened. Now then here he is at the end of the days and it happened exactly as God recorded it through Daniel. Gene Hawkins is Pastor and head of: Gospel Fellowship and Grace and Glory Bible College.
