I would be careful condemning Bibles without info. What you are comfortable with may be exactly what satan is comfortable with. You new Christians can be affected tremendously. Watch out when your ears are tickled. GO FOR THE GOLD!! (gold is a symbol of God's purity)
Here's one criticism from your link which reveals that the person making the critique did not understand what and why the NIV was correct.
Galatians 5:12, "I would they were even cut off which trouble you."
Galatians 5:12, "As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!"
In the Majority Text, Paul says that the legalistic trouble makers should be cut off. This is an easy phrase for any non-scholar to understand, it means that they should be disassociated or separated from believers until they change their minds. The Minority Text has Paul cursing the legalists and wishing they would cut off their genitals. Is this a Christ-like example?
The entire issue Paul was covering was the legalists who were saying that Christians must be circumcised to be saved. Paul, in Holy Spirit sarcasm was saying if they want to be saved? Then? Cut the whole thing off! Paul was being sarcastic. Your critic has no idea why it was written. He does not understand the way the Jewish prophets thought and expressed themselves, and Paul was no exception. The Holy Spirit inspired sarcasm in many places in the Bible. The translation you like has a way of making it sound buttery and smooth when its recorded.
- 2Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
The issue was "cutting off the foreskin" for salvation. Paul was using Holy Spirit sarcasm against the enemies of God's grace. You want to be really saved? Then cut it all off! (just like the pagan priests did in that part of the world).
Here is another one your critic missed the point about...
1 John 4:3, " but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist."
Since the spirit of the NIV does not confess in this verse that "Christ is come in the flesh," it must be the spirit of the antichrist.
Whenever we see the word "Jesus?" That refers to his humanity. So? His point is moot. The same words were not used. But, the end conclusion is the same.
This is the type of teaching that alienates Christians because they are never taught the Word of God exegetically so they could find out why what was being said.
In Christ... GeneZ
